During the first wave of the COVID pandemic, I collected glimmers of hope and news reports about solidarity and mutual aid. From those clippings emerged a book titled Interregnum. With colourful illustrations, you are taken on a journey around the world to all sorts of initiatives: from music played from balconies, volunteers delivering food and supplies to hard-to-reach areas, the retired teacher reading to children on the streets of Utrecht, hundreds of volunteers building a new hospital, and even the birds make an appearance. The accompanying animation makes the story accessible to children.
